Betty Blue Eyes Revival Set For Union Theatre

Betty Blue Eyes is returning to the stage in its first London revival since its West End premiere in 2011.

The musical stage adaptation of Alan Bennett and Malcolm Mowbray’s hilariously funny and sharply observed comic film A Private Function, features an expanded book by Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman and a deliciously infectious, toe-tapping, retro contemporary score by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

Stiles & Drewe said: “‘Betty’ was one of the most enjoyable shows of our 40-year career, both to write, develop and to have produced. We are thrilled that she’ll be able to bat her blue eyes once more at the Union Theatre, as our new King takes to the throne, the city will once again be buzzing with street parties and very Private Functions. Not seen in London since her run at the Novello Theatre in 2011, three cheers and welcome back, ‘Betty’!”

Casting for Betty Blue Eyes revival is to be announced. The creative team includes: Director Sasha Regan, Choreographer Kasper Cornish, Designer Reuben Speed and Casting Adam Braham. The show is produced by Sasha Regan & Stuart Simons.

Premiering in 2011 at the Novello Theatre, Betty Blue Eyes received nominations for ‘Best New Musical’ in the Olivier Awards, The Evening Standard Awards and the What’s On Stage Awards. The production starred Sarah Lancashire, Reece Shearsmith and Adrian Scarboroug. Paul Raven at WestEndTheatre.com gave the production 4-stars in his review.

The revival will run at the off-West End Union Theatre in South London, playing from 29 March until 22 April 2023.
